Clan Wood Society in South Carolina
Thom Wood says:
For the first time in the history of the famous Greenville South Carolina Scottish Highland Games, Clan Wood will be represented officially at the games and will have its banner and tent set up at the Scottish Clans circle at Furman University. How great is that!
How you can play a part. For the past 4 years, I have entered a decorated bike unit representing Clan Wood in the Friday night parade prior to the games. It must have made quite an impression on the thousands of people lining the route because my unit made the front page of the local newspaper! You'll see the photo elsewhere on this page.
This year (2011), we're really going to top that! I want any WOOD who has a bike to ride behind my 4-wheeled bke in a formation of bicycles 4-abreast, riding down Main Street. You are asked to wear a solid red t-shirt and white shorts/pants so that everyone matches. I may be able to get permission to have a helium balloon attached to your bike (too many and we might take off), and everyone will have a kazoo to play for the national premiere of the "Clan Wood Pops Orchestra" during the parade! How's that for class! It will be another first, and at no cost to you!
The parade route is short, lasting about 25 minutes, going down Main Street in Greenville. There is plenty of parking behind St. George Greek Orthodox church, which also serves as the parade line-up area. The parade starts promptly at 6.00 pm on Friday 27th May.
And since this is a FAMLY affair, I hope you will ask other Woods to JOIN YOU as well! If you can't ride a bike, not to worry. We will invite walkers to bring up the rear behind the bikers. Greenville is very biker friendly now, and this is a great way to get the parade crowd in a good mood. The clans march alphabetically, so that means we can make a BIG impression for the close of the parade!
UPDATE
(Sadly, due to a terrible weather forecast, the organizers of the 2011 games canceled the Parade at the very last minute!)
We hope you can join us in 2012. For questions and information, please contact me at thom_wood@yahoo.com .
Hear the clarion call, and ride for glory! (And for a really great time out!)

THE WOODS IN SOUTH CAROLINA
Having done us so proud at the 2009 event (see the Members' Bulletins pages), Thom Wood, with his cousin Cheryl, has headed another Parade contingent at the 2010 Annual Scottish Games in Greenville, South Carolina, USA.
His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of
Wessex, was a guest of honor at the Games,
and Thom's entry in the Parade was

Examiner newspaper.
